PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT READING FOR CHILDREN

My daughter spells like I did at that age. Lol. Remember my spelling mom?

In one of the John C Maxwell books I read he said he required his kids to read good classic personal development books and write a summary of what they learned to earn money. I LOVED that idea- so we do the same.

These are the notes my daughter took from a book she is reading. Here's what I can decipher......

"Instead of making other people nice first you do it!"

"Focus on the facts that you know instead of the opinions that you think."

"Benefit of the doubt."

"Remember what's good in you."

"Sharing and caring."

"Don't assume the worst in people."

"Love yourself...."

TRUTHS. So simplistic. But that's how truths are, ya know?

I was told this stuff as a kid, but then I can think of significant experiences as an adult where these SIMPLE TRUTHS hit me in a big way.

Even still, I'm learning these things, and relearning them, over and over..... and over again.

In this webinar I watched last night it said "we need to be reminded more than we need to be instructed."

Truth is truth. There's nothing NEW to be learned. Only a "remembrance" to be had of what is TRUE, what we already know. That remembrance comes thru seeing things worded a certain way, said at a certain time, or learned thru a certain experience.

Does Andi know this now forever and ever since she wrote it down on this piece of paper? Well..... I don't doubt she knows it. ;) But she'll get several opportunities to RE-learn it throughout her life, I'm sure.

But hopefully the willingness to learn <and relearn> is being instilled. At least that's my prayer as a mother.

Right now Andi is reading Chicken soup for the soul: think positive for kids: 101 stories about good decisions, self esteem, and positive thinking.

I would definitely recommend that one! She loves that one cuz the short stories are memorable, but hold her attention, and it's not going thru the entire book to get the point of something.

Here's a few of the books we have gotten the kids!

A few others they have liked.....

The 7 habits of happy kids by Sean covey.

What do you stand for? For teens- a guide to building character.

Don't behave like you live in a cave.

A little while ago I came across this and loved it! Thoughts I'd share...
